Quick News: UFC Releases Jake O’Brien; Shamrock-Le Ratings; EliteXC Releases Educational MMA Rules Video

A few quick updates:

  • Jake O’Brien has been released by the UFC. O’Brien’s last fight took place at UFC 82 where he lost to Andre Arlovski. MMA Junkie has the story.
  • The showdown between Frank Shamrock and Cung Le has been labeled a candidate for Fight of the Year by many. The problem is not many people actually tuned in to see it. As reported by Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the event co-promoted by EliteXC & Strikeforce only pulled a 1.2 rating (287,000 viewers). Adam Swift of MMAPayout.com points it out as a disappointment compared to previous Showtime MMA events.
  • For their debut on CBS, EliteXC has made a short video with Herb Dean, Nick Diaz, and Jake Shields to help overcome the misconceptions that MMA has no rules. It should be mandatory for all mainstream media to watch this before they slam MMA. Credit to MMAMania.com for the find.
