There were a ton of announcements, replacements, and rumors for upcoming events this past week.
Dream.2 Middleweight Grand Prix Round 1 – April 29
Four more middleweight fights were announced in addition to the previous three. The new matchups are:
- Ikuhisa Minowa vs. Taiei Kin
- Magomed Sultanakhmadov vs. Zelg “Benkei” Galesic
- Yoon Dong Sik vs. Shungo Oyama
- Ronaldo Jacare vs. Frank Trigg
There is one fight left to fill for the tournament. Yoshihiro Akiyama is the noticeable absence. Japan MMA is passing on information that he has a knee injury that could keep him out of competition.
Nick Diaz may also make an appearance on this card. According to graciefighter.com, Diaz had verbally agreed to fight Marcelo Garcia, but Garcia has decided to pull out. It is unclear at this point if Nick will still appear on the card.

CBS/EliteXC Saturday Night Fights – May 31
The card that had been previously rumored about was officially announced this week by CBS and EliteXC. Only a day later, ProElite.com announced there was a change to the lineup. Joey Villasenor would be replacing Murilo ‘Ninja’ Rua in a bout against Phil Baroni. No reasons were given.
The official card is as follows:
- Kimbo Slice vs. James Thompson
- Robbie Lawler vs. Scott Smith
- Gina Carano vs. Kaitlin Young
- Phil Baroni vs. Joey Villasenor
- Brett Rogers vs. Jon Murphy
WEC: Faber vs. Pulver – June 1
Manny Tapia was originally scheduled to challenge Miguel Torres for the WEC Bantamweight Championship on this June 1 card. However, he was forced to pull out of the fight with a knee injury. MMAMania.com reported Yoshiro Maeda will replace Tapia and get his shot at the bantamweight title.
EliteXC Card in Hawaii – June 14
According to ProEilte.com, Nick Diaz will face Mushin Corbbrey on the June 14 card scheduled to take place in Hawaii. Two title fights were previously announced for this card. Drew Fickett is set to face Jake Shields for the EliteXC Welterweight Championship. Also, KJ Noons will be defending his lightweight title against a revived Yves Edwards.
Dave Herman is also being rumored to potentially take on Ron Waterman event, according to MMAJunkie.com.
The Ultimate Fighter Season Seven Finale – June 21
Another non-cast-member bout is reportedly set to take place at the TUF 7 finale which is scheduled for June 21. MMAJunkie.com learned lightweights Spencer Fisher and Jeremy Stephens will square off during the event. This is yet another departure from the show’s traditional format of having the season’s cast members face each other. I would speculate either the UFC wasn’t too impressed with this season’s fighters, or, more likely, they just have too many contracted fights to fulfill.
