If we learned anything about the Randy Couture situation, it’s that the UFC plays legal hardball when one its top fighters leaves the organization. Tito Ortiz probably should have known better that the UFC would find anyway possible to screw with him if he didn’t re-sign with them and they have.
MMAPayout.com has learned that Tito Ortiz was recently served a cease and desist request from the UFC. The subject of the complaint was the cover of Ortiz’s recently released autobiography, entitled This is Going to Hurt. The book’s cover features Ortiz wearing the UFC Light Heavyweight Title is intellectual property of the UFC. As such, its use in promotional materials requires the company’s approval per the terms of its standard contract.
The book in question is already for sale in stores, so it certainly put Tito is a bind. Does he pull all the books off the shelves and print new ones with a different cover? If not, I would imagine we will see the UFC legal team come down full force on Ortiz.
Petty if you ask me.
