Anderson Silva To Fight At Light Heavyweight? Against Chuck Liddell?

Anderson SilvaEver since Dana White claimed he had an announcement that will “blow people’s minds,” speculation has been running rampant on what the big news could be. Network TV deal? TUF going live? King Kong vs Godzilla in the Octagon? Well, no one has yet to make a preemptive strike on Dana’s big reveal, but Dave Meltzer has some news that may be associated:

He [Dana White] promised an announcement that will blow people’s minds on Thursday. Don’t necessarily read anything into this as being the announcement, but I do know that they have talked with Anderson Silva about being on the card and fighting at light heavy and he wasn’t opposed to it, but there was nothing agreed to as of last week.

With Dana alluding to Chuck Liddell fighting in Atlanta in September as part of the big news, speculation has quickly turned towards Anderson Silva moving up in weight to fight Chuck Liddell. I’ll admit, if this turns out to be the case, Dana got me, because I never saw that one coming, but would that fight really be the “indicator of where this business is going over the next five years?”

If he meant the next five years will be full of super fights then maybe I see the connection, but we were supposed to get the Super Bowl of mixed martial arts after the UFC bought PRIDE, so that would have to be taken with a grain of salt.

Nevertheless, I think I’m really stretching it at this point. Even if Anderson turns out to be Chuck’s next opponent, there has to be more to this.

I’m going to go with a network TV deal or a new owner for the UFC for the mind-blowing announcement.

Any guesses?
