LOS ANGELES – FSN and ProElite, the parent company of EliteXC, announce today that FSN will telecast four one-hour special MMA cards Sunday nights at 9:00 PM local throughout mid-September and into early October.
According to comments made by Vitor Belfort in an article at Tatame.com, Belfort will not only be fighting at Affliction’s second show, which is tentatively scheduled for October 11, his opponent will be top ten middleweight Matt Lindland, and it will be for a title.
“The doctor will analyze [my broken hand], but I may stay four weeks out. I’ll come back in October 11th to fight Matt Lindland for the belt.”
Brian Stann will defend his WEC Light Heavyweight Championship against Steve Cantwell this Sunday, Aug. 3, at WEC 35.
In the past year, two of the UFC’s biggest stars—Randy Couture and Tito Ortiz—have publicly ripped the UFC for the large gap between the UFC’s revenues and fighter pay. There’s been rumblings that many of the UFC’s contracted fighters feel the same way, but aren’t in the same position as Couture and Ortiz to do anything about it. Well, no matter which of those categories Roger Huerta falls into, he’s no longer one of the fighters keeping quiet about it.
There seems to be a few unwritten rules that all but guarantee to get you in hot water with the UFC—lose consecutive fights, talk publicly about money, and talk bad about one of the company’s stars who is much more important to the organization than you are. Okay…I can’t think of another good example of the last one, but that’s basically what TUF 7 alum Jesse Taylor did in reference to Rampage, and it appears it has got him dropped from the organization.
The Wrestling Observer has confirmed recent rumors that Jesse Taylor has once again been released, not for kicking out another window, but for a comment he made following Quinton Jackson’s arrest.
“What goes around, comes around, I guess,” said Taylor when Jackson’s name was brought up. “I didn’t even know until I watched the show, but he said ‘He doesn’t deserve to to represent the company,’ and look what happened to him.”
Just to be clear, Taylor did make these remarks prior to word getting out that Jackson wasn’t in a normal state of mind. However, it didn’t take a genius to know that something probably wasn’t right with Rampage when that whole situation went down. Nevertheless, that obviously wasn’t a thought that went through Taylor’s mind, and despite backing off from those comments after learning about the possible mental health issues, the damage was already done as far as the UFC was concerned.

The CSAC has released the fighter payouts for EliteXC “Unfinished Business.” Keep in mind, these figures represent the base contracted pay the fighter receives from the promotion. These figures do not include any additional bonuses or sponsorship money, which in many cases exceeds a fighter’s base pay. These numbers also do not account for taxes, insurance, and license fees.
