Ever since BJ Penn defeated Sean Sherk at UFC 84, he’s been a man on a mission to get a rematch with UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St. Pierre. According to Sam Caplan, it appears that the UFC will grant Penn his wish if GSP successfully defends his title against Jon Fitch at UFC 87.
FiveOuncesOfPain.com has learned from multiple sources that B.J. Penn is expected to fight Georges St. Pierre during a yet-to-be-numbered UFC fight card on Dec. 27 in Las Vegas.
The finalization of the matchup is believed to be contingent upon St. Pierre successfully defending his UFC welterweight title against challenger Jon Fitch at UFC 86 on August 9.
If St. Pierre is able to defeat Fitch, it is anticipated that an official announcement about St. Pierre vs. Penn II could be made soon after.
This rumor has been going on for awhile now, and while it would be a huge fight, a lot of fans would rather see both fighters clean out their respective divisions before facing off again. After all, neither are Anderson Silva without any worthy title contenders to speak of. Personally, thats what I would like to see, but Penn seems to be relentless in getting this fight, and at the end of the day, it is going to draw huge numbers.
Of course, Fitch could always throw a huge monkey wrench into the situation and beat St. Pierre. Don’t think it’s not possible.
