If the ratings for EliteXC’s second show on CBS weren’t disappointing enough, their live gate figures certainly aren’t going to give them any reason to celebrate. While the event itself was easily one of the best shows EliteXC has put on thus far, the live gate was another huge disappointment. According to figures released by the CSAC, less than 44% of the people who attended the show actually paid for their tickets.
Of the 8,541 tickets the organization printed for the event, just 3,701 were sold. A total of 2,871 were given away, and 2,023 “deadwood” tickets went unused, according to paperwork the California State Athletic Commission today sent to MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com).
This past Saturday’s event drew a live gate of just $268,715. A total of $340,960 in tickets were comp’d, and $206,155 worth of tickets went unsold.
Ouch! That’s pretty bad. EliteXC obviously needs to bounce back in a big way on October 4, or we’ll probably end up talking about who Kimbo is going to sign with next.
Somewhere, Gary Shaw has a big smile on his face.
[UPDATE 7/30/08 10:14PM ET] – It appears MMAJunkie.com made an error in their original report. The numbers of tickets sold and comp’d were reversed. The quote above has been corrected.
