Here’s one report I wish I never read. Sam Caplan of Five Oz. is reporting that the Fedor Emelianenko vs. Andrei Arlovski bout has likely been scrapped. According to Caplan’s anonymous source, Fedor’s lingering hand injury is the culprit.
A reliable source speaking on the condition of anonyomity revealed to Five Ounces of Pain that Emelianenko has been dealing with a lingering hand injury that will make it virtually impossible for him to be ready in time for Affliction’s October show at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.
Fedor has had issues with his hand earlier in his career that forced him out of several bouts in PRIDE. Fedor also mentioned his thumb popped out during the Tim Sylvia fight, but he popped it back in and everything was fine. It’s unclear if either of these are related.
Or it could be a cover for something else. I’m hoping for the hand.
Assuming that Fedor is out, it appears that Josh Barnett will likely take his place against Arlovski in the main event.
This is pretty bad news for Affliction. A lot of people likely saw Fedor for the first time on July 19 and were undoubtedly impressed. Keeping the momentum going is critical for Affliction, and this isn’t going to push it the right direction. Needless to say, they really need to land Tito.
