Despite numerous reports of fight bookings breaking as recently as earlier today, ProElite has canceled it’s September 20 EliteXC “Showdown” event which was scheduled to take place in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

The Fight Network’s Mauro Ranallo broke the news earlier today on Fight Network Radio. Ranallo stated that the ProElite front office made the decision for financial reasons and to concentrate on EliteXC’s critical third CBS event, which is “tentatively” scheduled for October 4. Ranallo reported that even the Oct. 4 date is not 100% set in stone. EliteXC was apparently planning on holding another event on November 8. It’s unclear if “Saturday Night Fights 3″ could move to that date.

Mauro and co-host John Pollack also spoke to Jake Shields on today’s episode. They attempted to confirm rumors that Shields is being considered as an opponent for Matt Lindland on Affliction’s Oct. 11 event. Shields dodged the question, but later said Lindland is someone he would like to fight if he were to challenge himself against a middleweight.

It appears a lot will be riding on CBS/EliteXC “Saturday Night Fights 3″ for ProElite.
