Wanderlei Silva’s return to the Octagon has been rumored about literally every single month from September to December. The story seems to change every week. Rumors of Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson’s next fight have been nearly as erratic. Last we heard, Silva and Jackson would both be competing on the UFC’s New Year’s Eve show, although not against each other. Silva’s opponent had yet to be determined, and Jackson’s opponent was going to be Silva’s former Chute Boxe teammate, Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua, at least according to Rua.
Well, now reports are surfacing that suggest that Wanderlei Silva and Rampage Jackson will headline UFC 91 in November, as previously rumored.
Mmabay have learned from a very reliable source that the main event for the yet to be announced November show, UFC 91, will be between former UFC light heavyweight champion, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and Wanderlei “The Axe Murderer” Silva.
From what I understand, MMABay.co.uk is a fairly new site, so I don’t know if their information is reliable or not.
However, BloodyElbow.com has a report that seems to support their claim.
The UFC is already looking to book Quinton Jackson’s next fight. Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer that the UFC was looking to book him in a big match for the November show that currently has no main event.
Bloody Elbow has learned that despite Wanderlei Silva’s desire to fight in December, the UFC is trying to sign him to fight Quinton Jackson in November. They already have Mir-Nogueira and either Penn/GSP or a Liddell fight for December, and they don’t want to overpack the card at the expense of other cards.
Considering how often this story has changed, this should only be considered the latest rumor at this point, although this one seems to make the most sense. We’ll keep you posted.
