Three more fights were added to Affliction’s “Day of Reckoning” card over the past few days. Matt Lindland, Jay Hieron, and Chris Horodecki were all confirmed or rumored to be competing at Affliction’s second event, which is scheduled to take place on Oct. 11 at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas. They, however, did not have opponents until now.
In Lindland’s case, Vitor Belfort was originally announced as his opponent, but was forced to withdraw from the bout due to the broken left hand he suffered in his “Banned” bout against Terry Martin. Jake Shields was heavily rumored to be replacing Belfort until ProElite booked him for EliteXC’s Oct. 4 CBS show. Instead, Affliction has signed former UFC fighter Trevor Prangley to step in and face Lindland. Prangley has quite a few solid wins in the middleweight division, but those wins are accompanied by a few significant losses. A victory over top ten middlweight Matt Lindland would certainly put him back on the radar.
Jay Hieron, the former IFL welterweight champion, has verbally agreed to face Drew Fickett. As you probably remember, Fickett recently had contract issues regarding fight bookings with EliteXC and MFC. Both promotions dropped him from their respective organizations. However, Fickett’s manager claims Drew has turned his life around and is ready to move forward, so hopefully there won’t be any issues with Affliction.
As for Horodecki, he is believed to be facing UFC fighter Joe Lauzon’s brother, Dan Lauzon. Both fighters have verbally agreed to the fight, however, bout agreements have yet to be signed. If you watch the Tapout reality show, you probably remember Lauzon from a few weeks back when the Tapout crew featured him in one of their episodes. Should be an exciting fight for Affliction’s relatively nonexistent lightweight division.
Affliction VP Tom Atencio has confirmed the Hieron vs. Fickett and Horodecki vs. Lauzon fights.
