In an article today at Tatame.com, Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua elaborated on comments he recently made during a training session in regards to fighting Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson at UFC 92 in December.
“I’m back to training. I’m doing some Muay Thai and Jiu-Jitsu stuff, and thanks God everything is fine now. I’ll be back in December… They said that I might fight with Quinton Jackson, but nothing has been signed yet. They (UFC) called me and offered a fight with him and I accepted, but they didn’t say anything else more.”
The fact that Rua hasn’t heard back from the UFC regarding the potential fight could be attributed to rumors of the UFC trying to book Rampage in a rematch against Shogun’s former Chute Boxe teammate, Wanderlei Silva at UFC 91 in November.
Rua is aware of Jackson’s recent troubles, and acknowledges that it could pose a problem to making the fight, but he wants the match if Rampage is ready.
“It surely can be a problem, but I want him back in December and against me, and I believe he can be back.”
Whether Quinton’s next opponent turns out to be ‘The Axe Murderer’ or ‘Shogun,’ it will be a huge opportunity to avenge a major loss from his past. Either matchup will be one you don’t want to miss.
