Never Mix Business With Pleasure (Update)

There’s an old saying - never mix business with pleasure. When the “pleasure” goes sour, the business relationship suffers. Well, that’s sorta what’s happened with Affliction and Randy Couture, except instead of mixing business with pleasure, they tried to mix business with more business.

Bad Economy Hurting UFC 91 Ticket Sales (Update)

While Dana White and Lorenzo Fertitta can make a strong argument that the current economic crisis actually helps pay-per-view revenues, they can’t say the same about ticket sales. UFC 91 is supposed to be mother of all UFC events with the mother of all UFC fights—Randy Couture vs. Brock Lesnar. It’s supposed to sell well over a million pay-per-view buys and break live gate records.

Where are they going? A week removed from EliteXC’s fall, not one EliteXC fighter is free and clear yet to sign a new deal elsewhere. That doesn’t mean the wheels aren’t turning though. Here’s the latest on a few of the fighters EliteXC left behind.
Eddie Alvarez
Of all the fighters signed to EliteXC contracts, Eddie Alvarez seems to have the most options while his Elite contract is stuck in bankruptcy proceedings. According to his manager, Monte Cox, Eddie has two fights remaining on his DREAM contract, and deals with Andrenaline and Extreme Challenge.

Yeah, it’s not the most exciting video in the world, but it gives me a good excuse to tell you guys about one of my favorite combat sports blogs on the net—FightPassport.com. The site is run by a twenty-something inspiring fighter named Bill (not sure his last name) who’s currently traveling all over Thailand studying Muay Thai in the various gyms. He puts up reviews of all the gyms he goes to including the one Jon Fitch is training at in the video above, Tiger Muay Thai. The best part of the blog though is when Bill tells his stories about life in Thailand and the locals. What I learned from it? Never live with a Thai showgirl. Good stuff, so check it out.

More Todd Beard talk, but the question of if that actually was Beard on The Scott Ferrall Show still lingers. Literally everybody is reporting it as Beard, but was it just an error in one media report and it snowballed from there? I wouldn’t think twice if Dana White hadn’t refuted it, and basically made the guy out to be a nobody who owns a Men’s Wearhouse, but wouldn’t he know if it was Beard or not? Somehow this guy’s affiliated with Affliction, but it would be nice to get some kind of confirmation from them in case the media is blasting the wrong guy. If we’ve missed that, please let us know.
