It’s no secret UFC 100 is coming in 2009. UFC 94 is already scheduled for Jan. 31, so that would put UFC 100 sometime next summer. No specific dates have been made public just yet, but MMABay.co.uk has reason to believe that the big event is penciled in for July 4.
Mmabay has learned from a source working close with the UFC that an extra special event is being planned for their 100th show, which has been lined up for July 4th weekend in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Being the 100th pay-per-view event, we know it’s going to be big. Just how big is the question. MMABay thinks they have the answer.
Speaking to a contact, that we can not divulge, the UFC are planning the blockbuster event to take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena and could involve EVERY UFC title belt in a night of the champions.
That would be huge, but is it realistic?
Sorry to spoil the party, but it doesn’t seem like it. Even if they could get all the stars to align, the UFC would be left with two or three shows before and two or three shows after without any title fights. Five championship fights on one night would obviously make for the biggest mixed martial arts event ever, but it doesn’t really make a whole lot of business sense when they have five or six other pay-per-view events surrounding it to sell.
It’s going to be big, there’s no doubt about that. It will likely have multiple title fights, but all five sounds like an exaggeration or wishful thinking.
