With this year’s DREAM events receiving lackluster ratings, there were questions about whether or not FEG would hold a NYE DREAM event this year. While it doesn’t look like DREAM.7 will take place come Dec. 31, that doesn’t mean there won’t be an event. FEG held a press conference earlier today in Japan to announce this year’s K-1 DYNAMITE!! 2008 show. The event will feature DREAM fighters in MMA bouts as well as the traditional K-1 kickboxing matches.

No match-ups were announced today, but Sherdog does have a list of possible participants.

Atsushi Yamamoto
Caol Uno
Gegard Mousasi
Hayato Sakurai
Hideo Tokoro
Ikuhisa Minowa
Joachim Hansen
Katsuyori Shibata
Kazushi Sakuraba
Kiyoshi Tamura
Kuniyoshi Hironaka
Masakatsu Funaki
Masakazu Imanari
Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic
Mitsuhiro Ishida
Norifumi “Kid” Yamamoto
Seichi Ikemoto
Shinya Aoki
Takeshi Yamazaki
Tatsuya Kawajiri

JZ Calvancante didn’t make Sherdog’s list, however MMA Weekly is reporting that he’ll likely be facing Joachim Hansen at the event.

Noticeably missing from the list is Fedor Emelianenko. It was announced this past week that he had signed an exclusive worldwide deal with Affliction, plus his management confirmed that he would definitely not be fighting in Japan this year on NYE, so that’s settled, right? Well, I would think so, but Japan-MMA is reporting that FEG is still in negotiations with him to fight on the “DYNAMITE!!” show. Most likely, this is just FEG stringing the Japanese fans along trying to keep hope alive, but seriously, it’s Fedor, so who the hell knows.

One fighter who definitely won’t be participating in the event is Yoshihiro Akiyama. He’s no longer under contract with DREAM and apparently had a falling out with them, so he’s looking elsewhere to fight including DREAM’s rival organization Sengoku. That’s not the only promotion after him though. According to Sherdog, the UFC is also courting Akiyama’s services. Apparently, in their quest for world domination, they feel he’ll be an asset if they invade Korea.

It sounds like it’s going to be a great event, but it begs the question, have we already seen the last of DREAM?
