UFC 90 ‘Silva vs Cote’ Preview, Picks And Betting Lines

ufcUFC 90 “Silva vs. Cote” will take place tomorrow, October 25, at 10PM ET/7PM PT at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois and will air live on pay-per-view. The weigh-ins will be held today at 4PM CST and will stream live from UFC.com.

If you’re the gambling type, we recommend visiting BetUS to place your bets. They are currently offering up to a $75 sign up bonus.

The Fights

Minus (-) = favorite | Plus (+) = underdog

With a line of -150 & +150, you would have to wager $150 to win $100 if you’re picking the favorite. You would win $150 for every $100 if you bet on the underdog assuming he won.

If that has you baffled or you don’t feel like doing the math, BetUS has a MMA betting calculator that I highly recommend you use so you don’t have to pull out that old dusty TI-2000 hiding in your drawer.

Good luck!

So Patrick Cote thinks he’s going to shock to the world. He says he’s going to do this using the same game plan James Irvin. Taking 10 punches to land one. I guess Cote didn’t see how the Irvin fight ended. Cote can take a punch, but he’s not Superman, and the way Silva’s been fighting since he arrived in the UFC, it’s pretty much going to take Superman to take him out, at least on the feet.

Let’s be honest, Cote isn’t the type of fighter who’s going to give Silva any problems. Most likely, this fight’s going to stay on the feet where Cote is going to be in trouble whether he’s on the outside or the inside. Cote has a puncher’s chance, but outside of that, his chances are pretty bad.

But you never know. Never thought Matt Serra would beat GSP or Rashad Evans would viciously knock out Chuck Liddell or Gonzaga would cro cop Cro Cop. Crazy things have happened in this sport the last couple of years, but I definitely wouldn’t bet on it. I’ll be shocked if Cote makes it out of the second.

Josh Koscheck (-160) vs Thiago Alves (+120)

Kudos to Josh Koscheck for taking this fight on short notice. It’s certainly a tough one.

This fight is going to be won by the fighter who dictates where the fight happens. Koscheck needs to get this fight to the ground and keep it there, while Alves needs to stay on his feet where he has the clear advantage. Alves was masterful in stuffing Matt Hughes’ takedowns and made him pay for it. He was a monster in that fight, but he did come in four pounds over, so he may not be as big in this fight. Either way, he should still be the bigger stronger fighter and should be able to keep this one standing and eventually land something devastating.

It’s definitely a tough one to call, but I’m going with the guy who finishes the majority of his fights and isn’t coming in on two weeks notice.

Alves by TKO (strikes) in round two

Sean Sherk (-250) vs Tyson Griffin (+185)

Who wants to bet this fight goes to a decision? This fight certainly has the potential to be the snoozer of the night, so let’s hope it’s not.

Sherk and Griffin are both wrestlers. History tells us that means this fight will stay on the feet, but I’m not sure that will be the case for the whole fight. They’ll likely spend a significant amount of time on the feet where both have demonstrated improvement in their striking, but the fight’s likely going to be decided by who’s able to score a couple takedowns throughout the three rounds. I’m expecting that fighter will be Sherk.

Sherk by decision

Fabricio Werdum (-1000) vs Junior dos Santos (+500)

Werdum is the big favorite here for good reason. Dos Santos is essentially being fed to Werdum while he gets screwed out of the UFC’s heavyweight title picture. He should win this handily.

Werdum by submission in round one

Gray Maynard (-250) vs Rich Clementi (+185)

Tough call here. Clementi has the experience advantage and is riding on a six-fight win streak inside the Octagon. Maynard is big strong wrestler in the lightweight division though and will certainly present problems for Clementi. That said, I’m taking Rich.

Clementi by submission in round two

Preliminary Card

Thales Leites (-500) vs. Drew McFedries (+300) – Leites by submission in round one

Spencer Fisher (-350) vs. Shannon Gugherty (+225) – Fisher by TKO in round two

Dan Miller (-350) vs. Matt Horwich (+225) – Miller by submission in round two

Hermes Franca (-200) vs Marcus Aurelio (+150) – Franca by TKO in round two

Josh Burkman (-240) vs. Pete Sell (+180) – Burkman by decision
