Eddie Alvarez To Fight For Bellator On ESPN Deportes

Eddie AlvarezIt looks like Eddie Alvarez will be entering another tournament next year. Following a trio of incredible DREAM Lightweight Grand Prix performances, Alvarez will enter the Bellator Fighting Championships eight-man tournament, presumably in the lightweight division, which will begin airing on ESPN Deportes in April 2009. Alvarez confirmed the news to iguillotine.com.

Eddie Alvarez has confirmed today to iguillotine.com that he will indeed be competing on Bellator which will air on ESPN Deportes. “The contract is signed and I got my advance.” according to Alverez who is 15-1 and on a 5 fight win streak.

Alvarez also stated that he would be entered into the tournament and will have camera crew following him around for his training in preparation for his fights during the three month taping process.

Alvarez is also scheduled to compete on Jan. 23 on Monte Cox’s Extreme Challenge show.

It certainly good news to hear a ProElite contracted fighter has been able to free himself their clutches enough to get work, but unfortunately, this doesn’t mean all the other fighters will be able to follow in Eddie’s footsteps and start signing new deals. Unlike the others, Alvarez has a lot more flexibility in his contract than others like Jake Shields who are stilling having a lot of trouble breaking free.
