If Alistair Overeem wants to fight Mirko Cro Cop in the next month, it looks like he’s going to have to take Cro Cop up on his offer to battle it out in his basement. According to Free Fight Videos, K-1 made the announcement yesterday that the rematch would not take place on NYE at Dynamite!! 2008.
In yesterdays press conference for Fields Dynamite FEG executive Sadaharu Tanigawa made if official that Mirko Cro Cop would not be fighting Alistair Overeem.
“Alistair is begging for this fight but this fight will not go ahead on New Years Eve at Fields Dynamite. We will look to match them up on a different card.”
No official word on why the match was scratched. Did FEG just not think there was any interest for the bout? I don’t know, but Free Fight Videos seems to think a rubber match between Overeem and Sergei Kharitonov could take its place instead. Not a bad fight, but to be honest, I’d really like to see Overeem and Cro Cop settle their differences sooner rather than later. Who knows, maybe Overeem will accept Mirko’s challenge, you know, if he’s into that whole fighting for honor thing.
