Overeem’s Camp Would Rather Fight For Money Than Honor

Surely, you remember from last week when Mirko Cro Cop challenged Alistair Overeem to fight him for honor in his basement when it was announced that their rematch would not be taking place on this year’s K-1 Dynamite!! card. Well, in the video above, Alistair’s camp Golden Glory responds to Mirko’s challenge, and as you probably expected, they turned it down. Instead, they’d rather wait for the fight to be booked by an organization that will pay them. The video is translated below courtesy of Free Fight Videos.

Golden Glory Respond To Cro Cop Overeem Cancellation and Basement Fight

Mirko Cro Cop’s last fight left us was with more questions then answers. Three unintentional knees to Mirko’s groin ended a battle that he was loosing. Those questions will remain unanswered as their proposed fight at Japans “Fields Dynamite!!” has officially been cancelled by the FEG organization.

“Cro Cop is the one who doesn’t want this fight. From our side everything is OK. But Cro Cop doesn’t want [this fight].” said Golden Glory coach Martijn de Jong.

FEG announced the cancellation without an official explanation only adding that for the time being this fight will not go ahead however may eventuate at a future date.

‘To be honest, I do not know that the reason is for Dream not organizing this fight. I can only speak for Alistair and he says he really wants to revenge and fight Cro Cop”, explained de Jong.

Cro Cop in the meantime has offered Alistair an alternative arrangement. Should the two not meet at NYE, he asked Alistair to visit him at his Zabreg basement gym where the two can meet in Mirko’s cage.

De Jong laughed and replied:

“Ha-ha … I do not know, I have not heard the comments. But I think it is better to do it in an organization that will pay both fighters” choosing not to go ahead with the private cage fight.

When the rematch will happen is unclear .Maybe next year when Mirko recovers from a operation scheduled for January. A new opponent for Cro Cop will be announced in ten days time. However we can already scratch anther name of list of candidates – the current Olympic Judo gold medallist – Japanese Satoshi Ishii. Its still very unclear who the Croatian will fight.

So far, it appears they’re both still fighting on the card, which makes the fact that they’re not fighting each other even more ridiculous. I’m anxious to find out who their opponents are, but no matter who they end up being, there’s pretty much no way they’ll be better than Overeem vs Cro Cop II. Thanks a lot FEG, Happy New Year to you too.
