Kenny, if you’re going to call me a liar about that stuff, I’m gonna call you on it…You’re right, it was not an email that you sent me. You texted someone in the camp, told them that GSP’s a big roider and a big greaser, to watch out for it. And the word got to me, and we got all the witnesses here who know about it…Kenny, I’m just saying, calling a spade a spade.
–BJ Penn, responding to Kenny Florian’s denial that he tipped Penn off about GSP’s alleged greasing (and apparently alleged steroid use).
I think it’s safe to say this one’s going to get ugly.

Is it just me or is this whole thing very ‘high school’? He said, she said.
And to make it even better, just like high school, a fight will probably solve it all.
It is, never know with BJ if he’s being serious or just starting shit to sell the fight. Pretty serious allegations though.
I was just thinking…epic pre-fight trash talking:
BJ Penn vs Frank Shamrock
Question for you Steve:
If it turns out that BJ Penn is lying about these greasing allegations, as well as the fact that it was Kenny Florian who provided him this information and he keeps this string of lies going, how does it affect his legacy in your eyes?
Will it damage his reputation and will he ultimately be seen as a liar and a great athlete who could never just concentrate on excelling in the sport, or will he perhaps be viewed as one of the most complete MMA fighters ever who had a great knack for selling a fight?
I understand the need to get PPV buys and, ultimately, this is what puts money in BJ’s pocket, but am I correct in stating that at some point it will be too much for the fans if we keep getting lied to?
Well, I can’t speak for anybody else but i know I was burned by the whole Penn-Sherk steroid feud which BJ basically said was all fabricated to sell the fight immediately after. Should have kept that to himself.
That said, I think his legacy will ultimately be affected the most by what he does inside the cage for the remainder of his career rather than what happens outside of it.
If he stays with it and goes on to dominate every lightweight they put in front of him, he’ll have to say some pretty shitty stuff outside of the cage to tarnish what he’s accomplished.
Nobody like a liar though, if he’s going to keep doing it, he needs to own it, and not try to play both sides.
