Dan Hardy’s trying to make a name for himself in the UFC, and so far, he’s doing a pretty damn good job of it.
Following his impressive knockout victory over Rory Markham at UFC 95, Hardy called Marcus Davis out during the post-fight press conference. He even went as far to say Davis isn’t truly Irish.
Well, as you can imagine, Davis, not afraid of a challenge, wasn’t too thrilled about the comments, and wants a crack at Hardy at UFC 99 in Germany.
“I’m getting sick and tired of everyone saying I’m a fake Irishman or a fake this and fake that. I never told anybody I was an Irishman. What I am is proud of my heritage, which is Irish, Welsh and Scottish.”
“June would be the best time for me, and the reason why is because it’s on neutral ground,” Davis said. “They could even call it ‘UFC Whatever: Neutral Ground.’
“I don’t want to fight him in London or England. I don’t want that because I’m always the freaking bad guy there. I’m always beating these guys that are from that area. And he doesn’t want to fight me in the U.S. or Ireland, so let’s do it in Germany. If I could choose, that’s where I’d want it to happen.”
With both fighters ready to settle this grudge that come out of nowhere, this seems like a no-brainer to kick off the UFC’s debut in Germany.
Not every writer here thinks the fight should happen, but I say book it. I’m a sucker for a little good old fashioned trash talk, even when it sounds like it was taken straight out of a lame 1980’s pro wrestling storyline.
