Liddell’s Boxing Trainer: ‘It’s Very Hard To Train An Old Dog To Do New Tricks’

Chuck Liddell’s boxing trainer for the Shogun fight, Howard Davis Jr., talks about Chuck’s performance and the disappointing ending. Davis says Chuck did everything he asked him to, contrary to rumors that he didn’t, and didn’t have an explanation as to why Chuck didn’t implement his training other than the old “you can’t teach an old dog new tricks” cliche.

Personally, despite the tidal wave of Liddell eulogies that hit the net the past two days, I think if Chuck still has the fire, and wants to do it, he should test the waters in the heavyweight division where everyone’s a little slower. The interviewer asked Davis about that, and suggested Chuck move down to middleweight instead. I don’t even know if that’s possible. Chuck’s has always been a big light heavyweight, but I’m quite certain Davis would know better than I do, so perhaps it is.

Interesting interview. Worth a listen.
