What seemed like a ridiculous rumor barely worth mentioning yesterday has become a reality today.
Fedor Emelianenko and Shinya Aoki will partake in a exhibition match at the DEEP M-1 Challenge on April 29.
Also announced today, Fedor Emelianenko will face DREAM’s Shinya Aoki in an exhibition match at the DEEP M-1 Challenge event in Japan on April 29th.
Update: I’m not sure if Fedor vs. Aoki is a sambo exhibition, it could also be just an exhibition with sambo-like rules. The detailed rules will be revealed like a day before the fight.
Update #2: Fedor vs. Aoki will be 3-5 minutes long. On GBRing.com it says Exhibition Sambo-Rules.
Can’t say I saw this coming. It should be interesting to see to say the least. I got Fedor by armbar.
In other Japanese MMA news, DREAM has officially announced that Jason “Mayhem” Miller will be taking on Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza for the now vacant DREAM middleweight title at DREAM.9.

Wow, this is pretty last second but its amazing news.
I read that Fedor will be doing this years ADCC and if its true, I wouldnt mind him sparring with a small guy.
Marcelo Garcia (against Shamu Ricco Rodriguez) and many other great BJJ fighter have shown us in the absolute division that small guys might be disadvantaged by weight but they give a whole differente set of problems.
I presume this is a way to promote DEEP, DREAM and give Aoki a little positive press after his loss against Mach plus it gives the japanese a glimpse of their beloved Fedor again. Everyone wins.
As a judo/sambo practitioner, I am proud that Fedor is true to his roots and his country but my respect would go up eevn higher if he does participate in the ADCC where he has a great chance of being beaten.
Of course, if you read his interviews, he doenst have a star complex and doesnt like blind adulation so I dont think losing ADCC would be crushing to his image (nor does he seem to care about it).
That DREAM 9 card looks very good but I hope Mousasi is confirmed.
