Mousasi Talks Win Over Hunt, Confirms Affliction 3 Belfort Fight

Gegard Mousasi

No, I wasn’t nervous. I was very concentrated and had a gameplan in mind which I know would work…I didn’t want to trade with him. My gameplan was to force a takedown by punching. I trained real hard with heavyweights and I want to thank my trainingmates Jesse Gibbs, Ricardo Wondell and my brother Gewick. I also trained a lot with Guus van de Meer from Powerplate. He helped me al lot to gain weight without losing my speed.

—Gegard Mousasi, via M-1 Global, talking about his victory over Mark Hunt in the first round of DREAM’s Super Hulk Tournament.

Mousasi advances in the tournament, but at this point, he says he doesn’t know who he will be facing next, nor does he care. Mousasi did however confirm that he will be taking on Vitor Belfort at Affliction 3 on Aug. 1. No word yet on what weight the fight will take place at, but considering Mousasi says he can’t make middleweight anymore, either light heavyweight or a catchweight are the two likeliest scenarios.

In semi-related news, during DREAM.9, it was announced that Shinya Aoki would be taking on Vitor “Shaolin” Ribeiro, not Joachim Hansen, at DREAM.10. Melvin Mahoef vs. Paulo Filho and Katsunori Kikuno vs. Andre Amade were also announced for DREAM.10.
