Could Lesnar Become The Greatest Heavyweight In History Of The UFC?

Dana White says Brock could be in the UFC 100 hype train that just got rolling.

“After his first fight there were a lot of questions. Did he come into the UFC too fast? Should he have gotten more experience in the smaller shows before he got into the UFC? And he absolutely destroyed all those questions in his second outing against Heath Herring. Heath Herring is a guy who has fought all over the world, in the best organizations in the world, been in big fights before, and Brock Lesnar absolutely dominated him. Smashed him, beat him up for three rounds, and that answered all the questions right there about him. That was the day I said this guy absolutely belongs in the UFC, and if he keeps progressing at this level could possibly be the best heavyweight fighter in UFC history.”

A little too premature if you ask me. What do you think?

  1. I think he could be the best Heavyweight in UFC history. Here is my reasoning:

-he is going to be very hard to take down and control because of his size, strength and wrestling pedigree.
-he is going to be very hard to knock out because of the size of his head and neck, and overall toughness.
-it is going to be difficult to catch him in a guillotine choke because of his size, strength and body makeup (extra large neck and traps).

That is just his defensive makeup. This doesn’t even take into account how easy it is for him to takedown and control the opposition. His punching power has also been on display against Couture and Herring.

The only way to beat Lesnar is off of your own back, a la Frank Mir. There is a chance of a guy like Carwin or dos Santos catching him with a perfect punch, but it isn’t likely. Can you see him losing any other way?

  2. I don’t know, I just need to see more. What we think will happen and what actually happens in this sport is different too often for me to be confident one way or the other.

Mir could definitely submit him again. Nog could do the same. Carwin is a strong wrestler, maybe not as fast or explosive but what if he was able to put Brock on his back? I wouldn’t pick him in a rematch, but Couture was holding his own for the most part against Brock until he got caught with that punch. I wouldn’t be shocked if he found a way to win. Plus, you never know who else might come to the UFC in the next year or so. I just think it’s too soon to start talking like that, although I understand why Dana is. He’s promoting.

  3. It is definitely possible that Mir, Nogueira and even Gonzaga can submit Lesnar. However, to submit Lesnar, you are going to have to endure a lot of punishment. Nogueira is the guy who could do it, but he’s going to have to eat about 40 Lesnar hammer fists in the process.

Anything is possible, but I just can’t see anybody in the UFC beating him.

Premature indeed he is far from unbeatable and I think Mir has a very good chance. Maybe if he learned some ground and pound from Hughes or even Tito he would be dangerous but right now I believe he is far from unbeatable. As far as taking guys down at will I don’t think that is accurate at all because if Coutore could stuff his attempts while he was fifty of sixty pounds lighter then I think Valeeques or Carwin could hanle them. His chin hasn’t been tested by a stand up fighter yet either. The best striker he has faced so far would be Coutore and he aint no Knockout artist. If he fights Carwin or Dos santos it will definately answer that question. Lets not forget he has had his brain rattled around a fair bit while working for WWE as well where he actually did a backflip off the top ropes and landed on his head. That kind of stuff will wear on a gut too so yeah I think it is very premature to start talking about him being the greatest champ but say he lost the belt and worked his way back up to a title shot instead of being fast tracked like he was this time I think he would be way harder to beat then but now I think he is very beatable. Oh yeah he did kind of panic when he felt his knee being cranked on by Mir where a more experienced fighter probably would have maybe I don’t know tried to escape. Maybe that is inexperience or maybe he is really just a big pussy.

  5. Premature – yes – but with what all of you have said – and what we all know what Lesnar brings into the cage, him losing a fight from here on out is not likiy, only because he is well aware of his own weakness (Now) and brings a type of strength that a so called “Freak”
    has,

To get him to the ground or to hope that he will over step into your gard – if he hits you to the ground just wont happen. its been drilled into his head of the danger of the ground game – I do wish he would seek out a better camp to train !
