Dana On Cro Cop, The Next ‘Primetime’, And Doing Backflips Off The Mandalay Bay

Dana WhiteFollowing the UFC 100 pre-fight press conference earlier today, Dana White met with the media to answer questions.

One of the topics brought up was Mirko ‘Cro Cop’. Despite reports of Lorenzo personally flying to Croatia to meet with Mirko, which is likely resulting in Cro Cop fighting Junior dos Santos at UFC 103, Dana hasn’t said much about it since news broke immediately following UFC 99 that he had screwed the UFC to sign with DREAM. That changed today though. Dana doesn’t blame Mirko for what happened, instead he focused his anger on DREAM.

“I hope so,” White said when asked whether Cro Cop was returning to the UFC fold. “Like I said at that press conference in Germany, he and I had a deal; I think he’s going to honor the deal.”

“I’ve said this many times, and I’ll say it again: there’s some crooked (expletive) that goes on in Japan,” he said. “They’re all crooked; there’s some sneaky (expletive) going on over there. That’s always a big problem. These guys that are in the fight business over there, for my Mexican friends, ‘no bueno.'”

As for the dos Santos fight, while Dana said he hope it happens, he wouldn’t confirm, so it looks like it’s hinging on whether they can actually get Mirko to put pen to paper this time.

Moving on, Ariel Helwani working for Versus today has a few more tidbits for us.

Guess what Dana plans to do if UFC 100 breaks 1.5 million pay-per-view buys?

“If we do 1.5 million pay-per-view buys, I will do a backflip off the Mandalay Bay, and I’ll live. Believe me (laughs). … For us to do a million pay-per-view buys or anywhere near it, it’s amazing.”

Dana also confirmed they will be doing a “Primetime” series, like they did for GSP vs Penn 2, for the Rampage-Rashad fight. Between that and TUF 10, the UFC is trying to squeeze every last cent out of that fight.

And speaking of TUF, the UFC wants to a season centered around Mexican fighters like they did for the UK guys in season nine.

Oh, and the EA MMA ban, Dana confirmed that too in a round about way.

Ariel has lots more at Versus, so be sure to head over there and check it out.
