The UFC welterweight title fight between Georges St. Pierre and Dan Hardy has a likely date and venue according to Fanhouse’s Mike Chiappetta.
The UFC is targeting a March 2010 date for welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre’s title defense with No. 1 contender Dan Hardy, a source with knowledge of the situation told FanHouse.
Once formally agreed to by both sides, the matchup would likely be the main event of UFC 111, which is expected to take place at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J.
Now for the bad news. According to Cagewriter, one of the best remaining fights on UFC 108, Gabriel Gonzaga vs. Junior dos Santos, is now off thanks to another staph infection.
The hits keep coming for the UFC, Dana White and matchmaker Joe Silva. The fellas have to scrounge up a quality heavyweight to fight Junior Dos Santos Jan. 2 in Las Vegas at UFC 108. Sources with the UFC confirmed that Gabriel Gonzaga is off the card because of staph infection.
Geez, pretty soon one of the UFC’s biggest events of the year is going to look like nothing more than a decent fight night card.
The amount of injuries, infections and illnesses the UFC has been hit by is truly unbelievable. I don’t know if it’s too late to get Cain Velasquez back on the card to face dos Santos, but it’s too bad Gonzaga didn’t come down with staph a couple weeks ago when Nogueira did. At least then it wouldn’t be such a headache for Joe Silva who undoubtedly has had more in the past few months than any matchmaker should.
