Scott Coker talks to Steve Cofield of Cagewriter about Herschel Walker, Kim Couture and passing on Kimbo Slice.
Herschel Walker hasn’t made his debut yet, so it’s easy to say skill-wise he’s worthy of fighting on such a big stage, but how they can justify keeping Kim Couture on board is beyond me.
As far as Kimbo goes, I think Coker made the right call in not signing him. The UFC had the perfect vehicle and gameplan to reinvent Kimbo’s image. That’s just not something Strikeforce could have accomplished with 10 and 30-second promos, and eventually I think it would have backfired on them like it did with EliteXC.

I agree Kim Couture has no business fighting in a big league MMA promotion, but after seeing her against Kerry Vera I can’t imagine she’ll ever fight again unless she has some kind of a death wish.
But I disagree completely on Kimbo. Not that Strikeforce made a bad move not signing him that I agree with, but the part about the UFC is perfect for him because IMO the UFC loses a lot of credibility not only bringing him aboard but basically making him the focal point of their reality show and gearing the TUF finale around his fight just for the purpose of TV ratings.
I mean is this a sport or World Wrestling Entertainment?
Especially when the face of your company (Dana) trashed this man publicly as a farce who can’t fight, isn’t a mixed martial artist and would lose to a lightweight in BJ Penn.
Then when the guy’s available you go sign him to a contract and push him as if he’s a new star of your company?
Why Dana White gets a pass for this and isn’t taking to task by the MMA media for his hypocrisy and lies is shameless.
And no saying he’s a promoter and he’s doing his job doesn’t give him a pass for lying to get people to buy his product when he knows the things he’s saying are BS.
If you go buy a used car and the salesman tells you everything is fine with this car it runs great no problems when he knows it’s a lemon and you buy it drive it off the lot it breaks down are you going to just forget it and say to yourself well I can’t blame him he did what he had to do to get me to buy this. He had every right to lie. Of course you wouldn’t.
