Strikeforce just gained 250 pounds of pure lean muscle mass.
Earlier tonight, they sent out a press release announcing they’ve signed Bobby Lashley. He’ll make his debut on Saturday, Jan. 30, at Strikeforce: Miami.
NEW YORK (December 10, 2009)-Former World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) heavyweight champion and undefeated mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter has signed a multi-year agreement with STRIKEFORCE and will make his debut for the world championship MMA promotion at BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, Florida on Saturday, January 30.
The 6 foot 3 inch, 250 pound Lashley, also a former collegiate wrestling star for Missouri Valley College and member of The United States Army, will face an opponent that has not yet been determined during the live, SHOWTIME® telecast of STRIKEFORCE: Miami, the historic, first-ever STRIKEFORCE event in the state of Florida.
“I’m looking forward to fighting for STRIKEFORCE and challenging myself by taking on some of the top heavyweights in MMA,” said Lashley, a native of Junction City, Kansas and resident of Denver, Colorado.
I think we all saw this coming, but it’s great to finally see it official. Lashley won’t make the same immediate impact that Brock Lesnar did in the UFC, but he has the potential to be one of the biggest stars in Strikeforce. It will be challenging to find him the right match-ups in his first few fights though. He hasn’t proved he’s ready to take on the likes of Werdum, Rogers, Overeem and especially Fedor just yet.
Strikeforce really is scooping up all the available talent outside the UFC, aren’t they?

Update: MDS has the first interview with Bobby Lashley up at Fanhouse. The short version is Lashley wants to fight 3-4 times in 2010, thinks he’ll be ready to face Strikeforce’s top heavyweights in a year, and is “100% committed” to MMA. He’ll be training out of Denver in a ATT gym he recently opened.

yes, yes they are steve.
Strikeforce will have to organize more events on a regular basis to keep all these fighters busy. Fact that fighters may also fight in other organizations will help though.
The UFC are just being dumb imo. They are a billion dollar company who could pay Fedor millions per fight and still profit!! Yet Roy Nelson etc are now signed… they could easily have signed Mousassi and Lashley
you have no clue what you’re talking about
I knew it was just a matter of time. This is no doubt their biggest addition to the HW division. It will be interesting to see who they put him up against. He has so much potential.
