We now know UFC 112 will take place in Abu Dhabi and it will be held outdoors, but the question is, where? That’s the question Steve Cofield asked UFC UK president Marshall Zelaznik. According to him, the area they’re targeting consists of nothing but gravel at the moment, but by April 10 they expect to have what sounds like some kind of temporary outdoor arena set up with at least 10,000 seats.
“The majority of the events are held outdoors. The opportunity for us would include the building of an outdoor arena…You’d have some sort of covering on it. You’d have a pretty intimate live setting. In our current planning, we’d look to have 10,000 seats or more depending on the configuration we go with…Make no bones about it, the area we’re looking at is gravel currently. It will be built for a UFC event. It will be dressed in a way that it will feel very special. With the exception of walls and a roof, it will be an arena with raised seating, coliseum-style seating where you have people very close to the action.”
So basically it’s looking like UFC 112 will be held under a giant tent. Funny thing is if this was any other promotion, everyone would probably be laughing them off at this point, but since the UFC and their extremely wealthy Abu Dhabi partners are involved, that giant tent will probably end up being nicer than some of the arenas the UFC has visited in recent years.
