Duane ‘Bang’ Ludwig Badly Turns Ankle In Elkins Loss (Update)

We didn’t see it on the broadcast, but Irvin’s eye poke and Buentello’s dislocated pinkie finger weren’t the only odd injuries sustained at UFC on Versus 1. Duane “Bang” Ludwig’s ankle turned the wrong damn direction on him during a Darren Elkins takedown as seen in the pic above. Cagewriter was told it was popped back into place.

Update: Duane Ludwig fractured his fibula and will need surgery which will keep him out of action for six months.

The news was confirmed to on Tuesday by Ludwig and his manager Sven Bean.

The surgery will repair a Maisonneuve fracture the fighter suffered when trying to block a takedown from opponent Darren Elkins. Ludwig will have three pins inserted into his ankle to help brace the injury, one pin will be removed after the healing process, and two pins will remain in Ludwig’s ankle permanently.

According to doctors, Ludwig will be on crutches for at least three months, with a return to training after that, and could fight in approximately six months.
