Strikeforce has released a new video with JV From Wild 94.9 breaking down this Saturday’s Strikeforce “Nashville” card. I also compiled a few recent quotes from the six fighters on the televised card below.
“Jake’s dangerous and I’m not taking him lightly at all. I just need to make sure that I’m still implementing my game plan, and going out there and trying to beat him up, and not getting taken down and humped to death, still be exciting. It’s still a challenge of a fight for me, I’m looking forward to it…Don’t ever count out Jake. I know I’m a bad match-up for him, but he’s very dangerous. I want to make sure I take care of the fight the way I want to take care of it….I’m going to be antsy to try and go out there and knock Jake’s head off as well. Just the same as anybody else, no matter if they talk (expletive) or not. That doesn’t really add to how hard I try to punch them.”
“I think it’s going to be everywhere. It’s going to be on our feet, I’m going to take Henderson down. I think he’s going to take me down. I think it’s going to be an all-out war…He’s very dangerous in certain aspects of the game. I’m sure he plans on taking me down and (using) some of his bigger submissions… there’s definitely things I need to watch out for and be careful for.”
“He’s good. He’s experienced — not as experienced as a fighter as I am, but experienced with wrestling. He’s the opponent I’ve been asking for, he’s a dangerous opponent and it’s a good fight…Certainly, I’m the champion and he’s the challenger, but I think his wrestling experience is big: He’s been competing for a long time. I’m not taking him lightly. I’m more experienced in MMA but I’m not thinking that I’m a better fighter than him.”
“He’s beatable. I haven’t seen him go out there and just destroy people like people say. He wins. That’s it. I go out there to end careers, you know what I’m saying? He goes out there to win… When I fight, I try and end your career…I think I can strike with this dude. What he going to do? Hurt me? I’ve yet to see him knock anybody out.”
“That’s why we sign the contract. There’s risks when we fight. You can get knocked out, you can get put to sleep, you can twist an ankle, you can break an arm, and that happens. Hirota, if he didn’t want his arm to be broken, maybe he should have tapped out. It just makes that guy’s mystique so much cooler. I think Aoki’s a savage. He’s a tough fighter. It’ll pump me up a little more. Him wanting to break my arm is like me wanting to knock him out. It’s just the way the sport goes.”
“I love Japan and it is certain that if I lose, Japan will become a colony of US MMA. Some maniacs say that USA’s MMA is the best but I do not worship US MMA so this is big war to me, just like my fight against [Sengoku champion] Hirota [on New Year’s Eve]…Yes, this is a high risk, high return proposition. If I get the return, I give it to DREAM because I am a son of DREAM. The same as in the New Year’s Eve fight I am thinking ‘OK, I kill you!’ The relationship between me and the DREAM staff is real. They know my mind in this fight – Japan’s lightweight division is world class, and of the same standard as the US lightweight talent pool. Shinya Aoki is an icon of the Japanese lightweights division and so this fight become mega match.”
