Ortiz’s Lawyer: Tito Never Laid A Hand On Jenna, Alleges Oxycontin Addiction (Update III)

It appears an alleged prescription drug addiction is Tito Ortiz’s explanation for the incident that got him arrested on suspicion of domestic violence Monday morning. Ortiz gave his side of the story with his attorney at a press conference in Los Angeles.

“Jenna has been fighting a battle with OxyContin addiction for the past year. For Tito and her family this has been an uphill battle. Unfortunately this morning she had a relapse,” attorney Chip Matthews said. “Tito was trying to help her, she has threatened suicide before. Tito has done everything in his power to protect her privacy and the privacy of their children.”

According to Matthews, on Monday morning the UFC champ confronted his girlfriend (and mother of their twin boys) about the drugs he had found and she denied it. Jameson was allegedly suffering an “emotional breakdown”, prompting a 911 call from Jameson’s father Larry who was reportedly not in the room at the time of the confrontation.

Matthews also reinforced numerous times that Ortiz never ever laid a hand on Jameson.

“It means the world to me, my friends and family for their support. My parents have been through an addiction and I see it in the mirror again. I am not going to let my family go through that,” a sobbing Ortiz told us. “I speak from my heart, I hold everything dear to my heart that Jenna will be okay.”

Matthews also claimed that Jameson’s family have now sided with Tito since learning his side of the story, and are well aware of her alleged drug problems that they tried for so long to keep this out of the public eye.

Matthews added that Jenna only had a “scratch on her elbow” according to the police report and insisted visible evidence of physical abuse is not required to make an arrest in these type of domestic cases.

Immediately after the incident, Jenna said she was going to press charges, however sometime after Tito was released from jail, she told TMZ she wanted to work things out with Tito for the kids.

Jenna has since left town for Las Vegas with two friends, but did tell TMZ before she left that Tito is merely “trying to save his career” by claiming she has a drug problem. It’s unknown if Tito’s allegations changed her mind about working on their relationship.

It’s also unknown if Tito will even be charged. After the HBPD presents their report to the Orange County District Attorney’s Office, they have until Tito’s arraignment date (not set yet) to decide whether or not to file formal charges.

Update: More from Jenna…

Jameson spoke to KCAL-TV News outside her home on late Monday and said she suffered a torn rotator cuff in the alleged incident, though Ortiz did not strike her.

“He didn’t beat me,” Jameson said. “We had an argument, and it escalated, and things got out of control … the cops were called, and because there were visible marks on me, they took him to jail.”

Jameson said she filed a temporary restraining order against Ortiz but spoke to him today. She was open to Ortiz undergoing anger management and couples counseling.

“I know I did the right thing, and after watching what happened to Rihanna, I knew that I had to call the police.” Jameson said. “I’m just going to work on my relationship with him, and hope it works out.”

Update 2: Now Jenna says Tito threw her in the bathtub and his allegations are the “last nail in the coffin” of their relationship.

Jenna Jameson claims Tito Ortiz got very violent — throwing and injuring her — and that he’s falsely accusing her of Oxycontin addiction because he’s “very, very desperate.”

Jenna claims that during an argument Monday morning she, “said something very hurtful to his ego.” She alleges that Tito then grabbed her and, “threw me into the bathtub and tore two ligaments in my shoulder.”

Jenna says Tito’s addiction allegation is, “completely false” and “the last nail in the coffin” for their relationship.

Tito’s attorney maintains Tito never even touched Jenna.

Update 3: In Tito’s press conference, Chip Matthews stated that police did not need to see “visible injury” to make an arrest, however HBPD Lt. Mike Reynolds says otherwise.

Police Lt. Mike Reynolds said Ortiz was taken to the Huntington Beach jail and released after posting $25,000 bail. Reynolds said police can’t make an arrest on suspicion of domestic violence unless there’s a “visible injury,” and the unnamed victim’s injuries met that standard.

TMZ now has video of the events described above.

Note: Matthews says Jenna’s father has been lending his support to Tito, bringing him clothes, etc., however I’m not sure that means he has “sided” with Tito as the quote describes it above.

Jenna learns of allegations and says “talk about trying to save somebody’s ass for being a wife beater.”
