Gary Shaw: The UFC Made Huge Mistake Cutting Kimbo Slice

This brief interview with Gary Shaw makes me laugh. The UFC made a huge mistake cutting Kimbo Slice. They matched him up wrong, and should have built towards a pay-per-view with James Toney (Kimbo reportedly turned down a Toney fight btw). So says the man who ran a promotion into the ground with Kimbo Slice as his star attraction.

I don’t think cutting Kimbo was a mistake, nor do I think keeping him would have been either, but hearing it like this from Gary Shaw is pretty amusing.

Hes a big money maker in his eyes, only because he was lacking top level competition, and had to rely on other promostion resources, unlike the UFC. We all know of Dana’s ego, but I dont know, he’s trying to make this a respectable competitive sport. Michael Jordan didn’t make it to the bigs because of his fame. He was given a try at the minor league level, and didnt make it. I think Dana and the UFC want to make the point that he hold the UFC to standards just as high as other professional sports. I love watching Kimbo fight, and I wish he could have had more fights in the UFC, but he really didn’t perform well.
