Mirko Cro Cop Replaces Injured Big Nog Against Frank Mir In UFC 119 Main Event (Update)

Whoa, I go away for a few hours on a Sunday afternoon and the next thing I know UFC 119 has a new main event. Earlier today, Fighters Only broke news that Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira has pulled out of his rematch with Frank Mir at UFC 119 due to an unspecified injury. Fighters Only later followed it up with news on Nogueira’s replacement. You’ll probably recognize the name.

Mirko ‘CroCop’ Filipovic will be stepping in for an injured Rodrigo Nogueira at UFC 119, Fighters Only can confirm.

Filipovic’s inclusion in the UFC 109 [sic] headlining fight was notified to Fighters Only by sources close to the event. It will be the first time that the Croatian legend and former PRIDE FC title challenger has fought Mir, a former UFC heavyweight champion.

I was one of the few looking forward to Mir-Nogueira 2, but Mir-Cro Cop definitely works too. What do you guys think? Can Mir hang with Mirko on the feet? Will he try? Or is it time for Mirko to brush up on his submission defense?

Update: Nogueira explains his injuries to Tatame:

“I hurt my hips training and I’ll have to go on surgery. I’m only depending on a few exams, but I think it’ll be done by the weekend. The surgery will be on both sides of my hips, and I’ll operate my knee too. If everything goes alright I’ll be back on training in four months”, Nogueira said.
