The UFC typically releases a few underperforming fighters after each event. Most of the time, the names are predictable, but every once in awhile the UFC throws a curveball and releases someone no one expected. It appears this time that person is TUF 8 winner Efrain Escudero.
Escudero tweeted the news earlier today and added that he is already talking to Strikeforce and Bellator about joining their lightweight divisions.
Hello true fan I was released by the Ufc today speaking to strikeforce and bellator. Taking a week off and make my way back!!!!!
The reason(s) for Escudero’s release? Well, according to what Josh Gross is hearing, it’s apparently performance based. He’s lost two of his last three and doesn’t put on the most exciting performances in the world in the eyes of UFC. Plus, he didn’t do himself any favors last week when he missed weight by three pounds.
For the record, Escudero’s two losses came against tough up-and-comers Evan Dunham and Charles Oliveira. Hardly losses to be ashamed of, but apparently that was all it took to convince the UFC to let one of their TUF champs go to the competition.
