Anthony Pettis Granted Lightweight Title Shot Against Ben Henderson At WEC 53

Following his wickedly entertaining performance against Shane Roller at WEC 50, the WEC has granted Pettis a title shot against lightweight champion Ben Henderson at WEC 53.

Ben Henderson has been waiting to find out who the next challenger for his WEC lightweight title would be, and the wait is officially over. Anthony Pettis has signed on to face the reigning and defending champion on December 16 in Arizona in the main event with the lightweight belt on the line.

The news was confirmed to MMAWeekly.com by sources close to the fight on Thursday, with bout agreements already issued and signed for the December showdown.

Henderson vs. Pettis is expected to headline the card. WEC 53 is scheduled to take place on Thursday, Dec. 16 at the Jobing.com Arena in Glendale, Arizona and will air on Versus. The latest WEC 53 fight card can be found in our fight cards section.

This may turn out to be a decent match. I really like Benson alot and he improves with every fight. Pettis has the potential to be a great fighter, although I don’t believe he is on the same level as Henderson. If Henderson wins this fight decisively, I think it’s time for a bump up in competition with the UFC.
