Frank Mir More Interested In Fighting Brendan Schaub Than Brock Lesnar

“(A fight against Brock Lesnar) Honestly right now, probably no. Just because the  Carwin fight, Lesnar didn’t look all that spectacular. I think a lot of people might have thought that he lost that fight. And then the Velasquez fight obviously, Velasquez made Brock basically shout ‘Stop, Enough, Enough’ before he tapped due to strikes and that looked really bad… Right now I’m coming a win off of Mirko, I would maybe like to see me get another win and Brock himself redeem himself, so that way it’s more relevant to the division. Not just having the third fight for the sake of having the third fight. But having it to where it actually has some substance so that whoever wins will position themselves for a title shot. I think it has a lot more meaning that way… Roy Nelson is coming off a loss right now, but Brendan Schaub looked very good against Gabriel Gonzaga. That would be a fight, as far as trying to move forward to solidify myself for a title shot.”

—Frank Mir, via MMA Sucka, talking about who he’d like to fight next in the UFC heavyweight division

I don’t always agree with Frank Mir, but he makes all the sense in the world here regarding a third fight with Brock Lesnar. Booking the rubber match right now would feel forced and out of place with the flow of the division. Schaub and Mir want to fight each other as do Lesnar and Nelson. Booking those match-ups seems like a no-brainer to me.

A win over Brock would be a great way for Mir to legitimately get back in the title race… Brock is coming off a devastating loss and can still give anybody in the hw division a run for their money. Mir will walk through shaub – nothing against shaub but a win over him will really only prove as much as a win over cro cop

You hit the nail on the head ,Steve. For me, I see it as a chance for Schaub to really prove himself, its not about Mir earning another title shot. If Mir devastates Schaub ok fine, but he still dosent deserve a title shot, but if Schaub steps up and beats down Mir, the Schaub is suddenly a top contender, and that would line him up for matches against Rothwell,Nog,Carwin, and a rematch with Roy.

Well I just figured cuz, Rothwell beat Roy Nelson in 2007. So it seems like he’s on the same level as Roy. anyhow, its hard to picture Schaub devastating Mir. So really I feel like the HW div is a 3 way battle between Velasquez, Carwin, and Dos Santos.

Carwin is way overrated. He got lucky against Gonzaga, showed no ground game whatsoever against Brock and will not get past Nelson, Velasquez or even Rothwell
