Top ten featherweight Michihiro Omigawa, who has made quite the name for himself in Japan with five straight wins in the past two years, has re-signed with the UFC after months of rumors. He won’t get any gimmes in his first fight back in the Octagon since losing to Thiago Tavares at UFC Fight Night 12 though. He takes on undefeated Chad Mendes in Feb. or March.
Japanese featherweight star Michihiro Omigawa has re-signed with the UFC and will debut against Chad Mendes in either February or March, Versus.com has learned from sources.
It is still unknown whether the fight will take place at UFC 126 in February or 128 in March.
An even bigger name from Japan that may find himself in the UFC in 2011 is Kid Yamamoto. Word is UFC brass is working on signing him as we speak. He was said to be in talks with the WEC at one point in recent years but never made the jump from Japan. With the Japanese MMA scene fading fast and the WEC merging with the UFC, the stars finally seem lined up for Kid to make his US debut.
Update: Never mind about Kid being in talks with the UFC. Dana White has confirmed that they already signed him.
Update 2: Kid Yamamoto will make his UFC debut against Demetrious Johnson at UFC 126.
