Randy Couture Says ‘It’s Time’ (Update III)

So I think Randy Couture just retired via Twitter via his cell phone.

Update: Randy tells Loretta Hunt that he’s done unless the UFC offers him Shogun Rua or Lyoto Machida.

“I think I’m done. The time is right,” said Couture via text. “I’d fight Machida or Shogun but outside of that, I wanna focus on other things in my life.”

Update 2: Steve Cofield has another wrinkle to this story.

Sources say that Couture was offered Lyoto Machida, but then the offer was rescinded.

A Machida fight is problematic because there are some within the promotion who worry about the fact that the Brazilian has lost two straight. A third loss in a row would be crushing for “The Dragon.”

Couture was offered Rampage, but he turned it down. He really wants Shogun or Machida, but it doesn’t look like the UFC wants to give him either.

Update 3: The official Xtreme Couture MMA blog just published a post titled “Randy isn’t retired so STOP IT!” so I’m assuming that means he’s not retiring. I’m not sure what he thought people would think when he wrote “I think I’m at the end of it… it’s time” though.
