It looks like Strikeforce middleweight champ Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza has his first title defense lined up. According to MMA Fighting, Jacare will put his title on the line against former EliteXC middleweight champ Robbie Lawler on Strikeforce’s upcoming Jan. 29 show.
After a 50-second knockout of Matt Lindland in St. Louis earlier this month, sources close to Lawler’s camp confirmed to MMA Fighting that Lawler will get a shot at Souza’s middleweight title. And on Saturday, a source close to Strikeforce confirmed to MMA Fighting’s Ariel Helwani on Saturday that the bout will take place on the promotion’s Jan. 29 card at the HP Pavilion in its home base of San Jose, Calif.
This one became a no-brainer the second Lawler laid out Matt Lindland earlier this month. You gotta strike while the iron’s hot and it’s good to see Strikeforce actually do that for a change. Should be a heck of a fight.
