Now that we know Gray Maynard will definitely get another crack at Frankie Edgar and his lightweight title, the only question is when? Well, it could happen on Memorial Day Weekend at UFC 130, says ESPN.
It looks like we also have an answer on what Anthony Pettis is going to do in the meantime. His manager says he plans to fight.
“Anthony was obviously disappointed in not getting the title shot, but he also understands why Dana made that decision,” Roberts said. “After consulting with Anthony and Duke Roufus, we collectively decided that it would be in Anthony’s best interest to take a fight in the meantime.
“A 10-month or possible year layoff was just too long. We believe with a win against a top lightweight contender Anthony will still get the title shot later in the year”.
Another big fight appears to be in the works for UFC 130. Reported earlier today that a heavyweight match-up between Frank Mir and Roy Nelson will take place on the May 28 card. MMA Junkie confirmed the news.
A heavyweight bout between former champ Frank Mir (14-5 MMA, 12-5 UFC) and fellow contender Roy Nelson (15-5 MMA, 2-1 UFC) is in the works for a planned Memorial Day weekend event expected to be UFC 130.
A source close to the negotiations told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) verbal agreements are in place for the heavyweight tilt.
An additional source said the contract issues that forced Nelson out of an early-year event aren’t expected to be an issue.
If Frank Mir and Roy Nelson are going to fight each other in May though, then who is Junior dos Santos going to fight? Brock Lesnar? I would have put money on the UFC pairing JDS with Mir, but I guess not.
