Strikeforce Reportedly Heading To Japan For Second Batch Of HWGP Quarterfinal Bouts

It looks like Strikeforce is going through with it. MMA-Japan is reporting that Strikeforce will indeed hold the second half of heavyweight grand prix quarterfinal bouts in Japan as rumored.

Strikeforce will make their Japanese debut April 10th, 2011 during the afternoon hours in order to be shown live in the United States.

The fight card will consist of a lightweight portion, and the heavyweight grand prix second round.

Strikeforce will be working with Real Entertainment and possibly M-1 to co-promote the planned event.

The good news is, as many of you pointed out as a possibility, Strikeforce will run their show in the afternoon on Sunday, April 10, so US fans will be able to watch the show live on Saturday night, much like the UFC does with their Australian cards. I’m not sure how that will impact ticket sales in Japan, but I think that’s still a sacrifice worth making to give their core audience a live show in the customary time slot. If they want to get the most out of this tournament, they need it to resonate with the North American audience.
