Wanderlei Silva Explains Why He’s Not Fighting Brian Stann at UFC 130

I don’t know if I’ve ever been as confused about an impending match-up as I have with Wanderlei Silva vs. Brian Stann. I can’t even remember how many times this fight was on then off again. The fight has been removed from the official UFC 130 fight card, so it definitely looks like it’s off now. Recent reports even had Jorge Santiago taking on Stann at UFC 130, but Santiago swears he hasn’t signed with the UFC yet so I’m not sure what’s going on there. What I can tell you is Wanderlei Silva isn’t sure when he’s going to be ready to return to action and that’s why he’s not fighting Stann at UFC 130. Although, he also tells MMA Heat’s Karyn Bryant in this interview that he wasn’t too crazy about fighting in the first place because he’s an “American Hero” and he likes him, as Dana White mentioned on several occasions. Wanderlei says he’ll still fight him if that’s what everyone wants, but clearly that type of opponent didn’t motivate Wanderlei to hurry back to the Octagon. Instead, Wand is looking for fights against guys like Vitor Belfort and Nate Marquardt.
