Talk about jumping in the shark tank. Former ADCC world champion Jon Olav Einemo just signed with the UFC a few weeks ago and he has already agreed to skip the pleasantries and get down to business with former UFC heavyweight top contender Shane Carwin.
Dana White announced the fight during a live chat on The Seattle Times website earlier this afternoon.
Dana White: As for Shane Carwin: Jon Olav Einemo. That’s his next opponent. He’s from Norway. He’s 6 foot 6, and he’s the Abu Dabi submission champion.
If you’re wondering who the heck Jon Olav Einemo is, don’t worry you’re not alone. From what I gathered, he’s a “world class” grappler training out of Golden Glory and the only man to beat BJJ world champ Roger Gracie in a submission grappling match. He won the 2003 Abu Dhabi Combat Club tournament in the 88-98kg weight class after defeating Roger Gracie and Alexandre Ferreira in the semi-final and final rounds. In other words, he’s really good at jiu-jitsu.
As for his MMA career, he started off 5-0 with four submissions before losing via decision to now two-time ADCC world champ, Fabricio Werdum, at PRIDE 31. Einemo then went on to submit James Thompson before taking a very long layoff from professional competition. It’s said his last fight came against Kresimir Bogdanovic in Bosnia last summer but Sherdog doesn’t have it listed in their fight finder.
Here’s his fight with Thompson, but there’s plenty more on YouTube you can check out including his ADCC match with Roger Gracie.

Update: Shane Carwin says Jon Olav Einemo actually requested to fight him.
Update: Here’s Team Golden Glory including Alistair Overeem saying that Carwin is going to get his ass whooped by Jon Olav Einemo.
