Shane Carwin Fights Jon Olav Einemo at UFC 131 (Update II)

Talk about jumping in the shark tank. Former ADCC world champion Jon Olav Einemo just signed with the UFC a few weeks ago and he has already agreed to skip the pleasantries and get down to business with former UFC heavyweight top contender Shane Carwin.

Dana White announced the fight during a live chat on The Seattle Times website earlier this afternoon.

Dana White: As for Shane Carwin: Jon Olav Einemo. That’s his next opponent. He’s from Norway. He’s 6 foot 6, and he’s the Abu Dabi submission champion.

Dana didn’t say when the fight will take place, but several reputable sites including MMA Junkie and MMA Fighting are reporting that it’s scheduled for June 11 in Vancouver at UFC 131.

If you’re wondering who the heck Jon Olav Einemo is, don’t worry you’re not alone. From what I gathered, he’s a “world class” grappler training out of Golden Glory and the only man to beat BJJ world champ Roger Gracie in a submission grappling match. He won the 2003 Abu Dhabi Combat Club tournament in the 88-98kg weight class after defeating Roger Gracie and Alexandre Ferreira in the semi-final and final rounds. In other words, he’s really good at jiu-jitsu.

As for his MMA career, he started off 5-0 with four submissions before losing via decision to now two-time ADCC world champ, Fabricio Werdum, at PRIDE 31. Einemo then went on to submit James Thompson before taking a very long layoff from professional competition. It’s said his last fight came against Kresimir Bogdanovic in Bosnia last summer but Sherdog doesn’t have it listed in their fight finder.

Here’s his fight with Thompson, but there’s plenty more on YouTube you can check out including his ADCC match with Roger Gracie.

Update: Shane Carwin says Jon Olav Einemo actually requested to fight him.

Update: Here’s Team Golden Glory including Alistair Overeem saying that Carwin is going to get his ass whooped by Jon Olav Einemo.

Finally, there’s an opponent for Carwin! Enimo isn’t a household name, but he definetely should not be takin lighlty. Carwin may have his hands full if this fight goes to the ground. Although, I believe Carwin will come back extremely hungry and losing is not an option. Carwin 1st rd tko.

Hmm calling out Shane Carwin. Not the smartest move. Good luck using your BJJ if as soon as you get touched by those lunch boxes your down to the undercards.

dude did u see him vs mir and lesnar he should have beat lesnar if it wasnt for that dumbass ref. so……… were has this olav guy been for the last 5 years? carwin is a beast so dont take him lightly he will kill olav. and so what if he just has power look at mir and lesnar after the fight they were fucked up so we will see what olav looks like after

From watching that fight, Carwin will destroy him. The guy has no power, and his takedowns are weak. If he can get Carwin on his back and keep him there, he’s got a chance. I wouldn’t bet on it though.

  • sandman

Don’t see this guy lasting long with Carwin. Let him play with Nelson…

  • Shane0286

No chance with carwin, that Dude did not impress me at all. When carwin gets a hold of him or smashes him with one of his lunchbox’s it will be game over.

  • Sean
