Gina Carano & Andrei Arlovski Set Up Camp at Greg Jackson’s MMA in Albuquerque

Greg Jackson’s MMA may have lost Rashad Evans, but their gaining two other big names in the mixed martial arts world. Both Gina Carano and Andrei Arlovski are setting up camp in Albuquerque, New Mexico for their next fights.

Five Knuckles first reported that Carano had left Xtreme Couture, where she has spent most of his career, for Jackson’s earlier this week. MMA Weekly confirmed the news, but added that this might not necessarily be a permanent move.

Sources at Team Jackson/Winkeljohn informed MMAWeekly.com that Carano began training there about three weeks ago, and while she’s not officially part of the team, she plans to continue her work there in the immediate future.

Arlovski, on the other hand, is moving his home base from Chicago to Albuquerque. Arlovski has trained with several different trainers and camps over the years, including Jackson’s MMA, but he always returned to Chicago for the bulk of his training. Arlovski revealed the news last week on a live video chat with his fans.

While it’s unknown exactly why Gina left Couture’s, Arlovski apparently made the decision to leave Chicago after his longtime trainer Mike Garcia told a colleague and not Arlovski himself that he thinks “The Pit Bull” needs to retire. Hearing the news second hand upset Arlovski and pushed him to make the decision. Garcia explained to ProMMANow.com that he’s merely concerned for Arlovski’s health and well-being, but wishes him the best at Jackson’s.

“I didn’t mean it like he doesn’t have the skills. There’s just… I just don’t want to see him get hurt. There’s something not clicking, and you can see in his last couple fights he’s not the same Andrei. He says he wants to fight, I hope he does. But if he doesn’t , I just don’t want to see him get hurt.”

“This last one was kind of brutal. It scared me a little bit,” admitted Garcia. “He was doing good for the first two minutes then all a sudden he just shut down, and I don’t know what happened.”

“If Greg Jackson can bring the best out of him. God bless him, I hope he does. I’d like to see him get back on top,” said Garcia.

Time will tell if Team Jackson can get Carano and Arlovski back on the winning track like they have for so many others.
