Despite FEG’s well-documented financial issues and the devastating earthquake and tsunami that rocked Japan last month, the organization is moving forward with a Japan bantamweight grand prix at DREAM.17 “Fight for Japan” on May 29. DREAM officials announced the official match-ups earlier today.
- Yoshiro Maeda vs. Hideo Tokoro
- Darren Uyenoyama vs. Atsushi Yamamoto
- Kenji Osawa vs. Takafumi Otsuka
- Keisuke Fujiwara vs. Masakazu Imanari
The second round of the tournament will also take on the DREAM.17 card with the finals taking place in July. The top three are expected to compete in a world bantamweight grand prix later in the year which is expected to include former DREAM bantamweight champ Bibiano Fernandes.
Shinya Aoki, Joachim Hansen and Mitsuhiro Ishida are also expected to compete on the card, but they haven’t been officially announced.
As of now, there is no broadcast deal in place for the event, but HDNet is said to be “optimistic.”
