UFC 129: Lyoto Machida’s Crane Kick That Ended Randy Couture’s Career

If you missed UFC 129, here’s Lyoto Machida’s Karate Kid/Steven Seagal (Lyoto said it, not me) inspired jumping crane kick that ended Randy Couture’s career (or so he says).

Update: Lyoto said pretty much the same thing that Anderson Silva did about Steven Seagal at the post-fight press conference. Lyoto already knew the kick, but Seagal helped him “perfect” it. Lightning really can strike twice!

That’s awesome! Why does Silva and Machida give props to Seagal?!

      Maybe he earned the props.

Steven Seagal coached Anderson Silva in his last fight. And since Lyoto and Anderson are friends, Steven started coaching Machida also. Perfecting an Under-rated Front Kick! It is strong and hard to block straight in the middle. You have to move to the side to avoid it! lol

Steven Seagal is a Master in Aikido. He has Law Enforcement background and has trained many Agents and Officers. He has the Knowledge, Skills, and Experience to Teach fighting! He lived and trained in Japan for years and was even given the Honor of opening an Aikido school in Japan!

Oh no, here we go again with the basic front snap kick that was left out of training when all these fighters were climbing the ranks of their disciplines, but these Black Belts are finally getting to learn the technique now….

Awesome… Respectfull as Randy is, he won´t say, like Belfort said, that it was a luck kick.
I disagree with saying that kick, no matter how superb it was, ended Couture´s career.
Couture had a remarcable career that was, for so many years ago, already in it´s twilight.

Machida has always been a great fighter… with his ups and downs, but an interesting contender for the title after some more fights. Maybe now Dana will start respecting the good fighters he´s got in his event.

I love the article and bringing in the Karate Kid video is priceless. The kick didn’t end Randy’s career….Randy already said his career was ending before he stepped into the cage. It was just the last thing he did in his career.

Yeah, that’s more or less what I meant.

it is misleading to say the kick ‘ended’ randy’s career. he said himself he had been thinking about it for a long time. you have to figure randy was going out soon. if he won this one, it still might have been it.
i, for one, am glad to see him leave now. he had a great career, i love the guy, and would hate to see him end up as a stepping stone for up and coming kids. he leaves with respect and dignity, and all his marbles.

This is a really poorly worded article. I very much dislike Machida but I will admit that kick was damn awesome but Randy ended his career, not Machida.

too bad that wasn’t a crane kick, at all. talk about exaggeration.
