Observations from My Couch: UFC 132 ‘Cruz vs. Faber’

A few observations from UFC 132: “Cruz vs. Faber”:

-There’s something mildly insane about seeing TUF 2 scrub Melvin Guillard turning into an absolute monster of late and destroying foes left and right, while TUF 2 winner Joe Stevenson hasn’t won in nearly two years.

-George Sotiropoulos is caught between a rock and a hard place.  He needs to improve his striking to be able to deal with strikers, but he also needs to never get into a striking contest with opponents ‘cause he completely lacks the chin for it.

-The murkiness of the welterweight division became just a little bit clearer thanks to a flying knee and a “Natural Born Killer”.  I don’t know about immediate title shots, but I do not doubt that Carlos Condit is up there.

-Tito Ortiz’s impressive win over a quality opponent was so.  Amazingly.  Satisfying.

-Admittedly, Matt Wiman vs. Dennis Siver was close.  Very, very close.  However, no way did Siver do enough to take two of those rounds.  Though he ate some leather, Wiman gave as good as he got, and he made Siver struggle.  Dude was robbed.

-I know for whom the bell tolls.  It tolls for thee, Wanderlei Silva.  It tolls for thee.

-Dominick Cruz and Urijah Faber had a pretty decent war.  It’s clear, though, from Faber’s successes in the cage (or lack thereof), that Cruz is going to be the bantamweight champ for a long time.
