Randy Couture’s most recent ex-wife, Kim, returned to the ring at AX Combat 1 this past weekend and let’s just say that things didn’t go as planned. Her opponent, Sheila Bird, managed to choke her unconscious with a rarely-seen scissor lock early in the fight. But, at least she has the ref to save her from any unnecessary choking, right? Wrong, somehow the ref fails to see how completely out she is by the blank, glossy stare in her eyes and doesn’t stop it until several seconds later when he lifts her limp arm to see if she’ll pull a Hulk Hogan-esque comeback. She didn’t. Good one, ref.

Update: Good news. Kim Couture is fine and the Calgary commission is investigating the late stoppage.
“I’m fine,” Couture said. “I woke up and I thought the fight was still going on. Once I realized what was happening, I stood up and waved to the crowd, but I’m fine.”
“This matter is under review by the Calgary Combative Sports Commission and until a thorough investigation has been conducted there will be no further comment,” said Commission representative Shirley Stunzi in an email communication with MMAWeekly.com on Sunday.
Update: To add even more controversy to this fight, Kim Couture apparently fought while she was under an indefinite medical suspension with the NJACB and now the Calgary commission is in hot water for allowing the fight to happen in the first place.
Oh, and by the way, Kim says she has no problem with the referee letting her get choked out far longer than he should have. Personally, I would have been pissed.
